Richmond County authorities are investigating a stabbing death at the Super 8 motel in Augusta.
Officers were called to the Washington Road motel just after 10 p.m. Friday in reference to a stabbing. Deputies located a male victim who had been stabbed at least one time, and the victim succumbed to his injuries, sheriff’s Sgt. John Perry said. Witnesses say he was stabbed at the Days Inn and stumbled over to Super 8, where he collapsed.
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office was on the scene. A witness posted a photo showing the victim with a white sheet covering the body and crime scene all around the parking lot.

A name has not been released pending notification of the family.
The Super 8 motel has been the location for previous violence and drug use. In January, a Richmond County man was accused of robbing two men at gunpoint outside the same Super 8 motel. Chezere Adions Coppock, 33, was arrested Jan. 18 for armed robbery, possession of firearm by convicted felon, possession of firearm or knife during crime and two counts of armed robbery.
In March 2022, two deputies were simply riding through the parking lot of the Super 8 when a woman took off running. She bolted into Room 149.
While inside the room talking with suspect Matthew Mixon, the officer observed more than a dozen needles scattered in plain view. Several were loaded. The officer saw two clear plastic bags containing a white crystal substance in an open drawer on the nightstand and a clear plastic baggie containing crushed blue pills on the TV stand.
At the end of the day, three hotel guests were charged with possession of meth, heroin and MDMA (Ecstasy).
