A jury found the younger of two brothers guilty last week of shooting a Wendy’s employee who gave them a ride after he got off work.
After a days-long trial, the Richmond County jury found Nasyr Barnes, 18, guilty of aggravated assault for shooting Chris Jones in the head on May 2, 2021, Augusta Circuit District Attorney Jared Williams said.
During the trial, Barnes’ brother Nigel Scott, 24, pleaded guilty and testified against Barnes, Williams said.
“It’s a tragedy to see kids caught up in gang violence at such a young age,” said Chief ADA Kevin Davis. “We’re here to hold them accountable for their actions.”

Prosecutors said the two suspects promised to give Jones a gun if he gave them a ride.
Jones survived the shooting. A passenger was injured jumping from the moving car to escape the gunfire.
Williams thanked Richmond County Sheriff’s Inv. Courtland Harris for developing a strong case, and the prosecution team for its “no-nonsense” approach to gun and gang violence.
Sentencing has not been scheduled for Barnes and Scott.
