A Martinez father has been arrested for allegedly throwing a bowl at his 7-year-old daughter, leaving her with a black eye.

Daniel Nathan Symons, 36, of Martinez, was charged Tuesday with cruelty to children in the second degree, causing excessive physical pain. He was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center.

The child abuse case came to the attention of the sheriff’s office on Tuesday through the Department of Family and Children Services. But it allegedly happened on Nov. 3 at the family’s apartment on Bloedel Reserve Way.

According to an arrest warrant, the suspect got angry and “threw an eating utensil and bowl” at his daughter, “causing her to have a black eye and urinate in her clothing.”

The assault caused the girl “cruel or excessive physical or mental pain,” the warrant says. A booking sheet lists the suspect as 5’11” tall and 265 pounds.

Symons faces 1-10 years in prison if convicted on the second-degree child cruelty charge, according to Georgia law.
