An email was sent out to parents at approximately 5:09 p.m. on Tuesday regarding a Martinez Elementary School student who was found with a utility knife on campus.
According to this alert, administration were alerted to a student reportedly showing a knife to other students in class. The Columbia County School District Police were contacted immediately and found the student with the knife upon further investigation.
No threats were made by the student, and they are being held accountable according to the student code of conduct.

Evans High School students facing charges
An alert was sent out at approximately 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday regarding two Evans High School students who were involved in a physical altercation in the commons area during class change.
According to this alert, the two students involved have been criminally charged and will also face consequences according to the code of conduct.

Evans Middle School bus incident
On Tuesday, an incident occurred on school bus route 20, bus number 2310 that was driving Evans Middle School students.
According to an email sent out by the district, the bus had to pull over on Oakley Pirkle Road to address student behavior.
“School administrators immediately responded to assist the driver and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was contacted out of an abundance of caution,” the email said. “Several students left the school bus without permission, but were safely located. A school administrator stayed on the bus for the remainder of the route as a precaution. Safety of students and staff is a top priority and while no students were injured, we felt it was best to notify our parents.”
The email reiterated that that school buses are exemptions of the classroom and students need to maintain proper behavior while on board.
