This Saturday, March 15, the Martinez-Evans Little League (M.E.L.L.) will celebrate its opening day with a special dedication ceremony at 11:45 a.m. for the newly renovated Kelley Park.
The event, held at 3683 River Watch Parkway, will mark a significant milestone in the park’s recovery following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene last September.
After the hurricane severely damaged Kelley Park, community members and volunteers quickly mobilized to restore and reconstruct the complex.
The extensive damage did not deter their efforts, and through months of hard work, the park now boasts newly added fields and upgraded lighting to replace those lost in the storm, according to a press release from the M.E.L.L.
“This Saturday will showcase the tremendous community effort to restore Kelley Park,” a press release from the M.E.L.L. stated. “The amount of damage was devastating, but the dedication of volunteers made this rebuild possible.”
In addition to the field dedications at Kelley Park, M.E.L.L. will host its full opening ceremonies earlier that morning at Crawford Creek Little League Park, located at 1475 Collins Drive in Martinez, beginning at 10 a.m.
The event will feature over 55 teams and more than 600 players, highlighting the league’s strong presence in the community.
League officials are inviting the public to join in the celebration and witness the revitalization of Kelley Park. A video showcasing the damage and recovery efforts can be viewed here.
“We look forward to having you join us,” stated a press release from the M.E.L.L.
