A Martinez man was taken to jail earlier this month for battery after hitting his girlfriend with a water hose and guzzling avocado tequila in front of police.

Nicholas Trotter, 33, is accused of spraying his live-in girlfriend with a water hose and striking her in the head and face Feb. 12 at their home on Mears Street, according to a sheriff’s report.

The victim said Trotter had been drinking a lot when he implied that she had previously been intimate with a male friend who recently died.

“Mr. Trotter threw a cup of orange juice on her while she was in the bed,” a report says. “She has been a victim of Mr. Trotter’s physical assaults in the past so she ran outside to seek refuge from nearby neighbors. Mr. Trotter followed her outside and began spraying her with water from the water hose. He took the water hose and sprayed water inside of the vehicle that she uses.”

Trotter hit the woman in the face with the water hose at least twice, she told police.

The victim, who suffered two black eyes and a deep gash on her face, told authorities that Trotter only becomes aggressive when he drinks “to excess.” She confessed to drinking some, and she told deputies that Trotter had drunk Captain Morgan Spiced Rum and several shots of whiskey.

“Deputy Urbizo noticed that Mr. Trotter was drinking a Michelob Ultra beer from a can when we arrived,” the report says. “Deputy Urbizo also noticed three empty cans on the counter that Mr. Trotter admitted to drinking and while Mr. Trotter was standing in the kitchen, he took ‘swigs’ of avocado tequila from the bottle.”
