The Augusta National is planning to reduce the number of patrons allowed at the Masters Golf Tournament in April, Chairman Fred Ridley announced yesterday.
“Following the successful conduct of the Masters Tournament last November with only essential personnel, we are confident in our ability to responsibly invite a limited number of patrons to Augusta National in April,” Ridley said. “As with the November Masters, we will implement practices and policies that will protect the health and safety of everyone in attendance. Nothing is, or will be, more important than the well-being of all involved.”
Ridley said the Augusta National is disappointed to have to cut the number of patrons this year, but the golf club is hopeful that full access will be restored for 2022, “provided conditions improve.”
Also, Ridley announced said that the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals will be conducted as scheduled but also with fewer patrons who will be required to follow social distancing and other COVID-19-safe procedures.
The National will offer refunds to those patrons who are not chosen to attend. The 2020 Master’s was the first time the tournament had been canceled or postponed since 1945 when the U.S. was involved in World War II. The Masters Tournament usually occurs in the first week of April but was postponed until November due to the COVID-19 crisis. Dustin Johnson coming out with his first green jacket.
