The Augusta mayor’s office reported localized flooding, and the American Red Cross is dispatching disaster-relief teams in response to heavy overnight rainfall.
The National Weather Service reported approximately three inches fell at Augusta Regional Airport between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The rain overwhelmed Augusta’s storm drainage system, Mayor Garnett Johnson said in a statement.
City Engineering, Maintenance, Fire, Parks and Recreation and other departments are expected to assess the damage and report findings by the end of Friday, Johnson said.
Call Augusta Emergency Management Agency at (706) 821-1156 or Augusta 311 for assistance with fallen trees or other debris. Citizens needing emergency services can call the Red Cross at (800) 733-2767.
GIS, other systems back to functionality
In another development, Augusta GIS and Environmental Services systems are restored, the mayor’s office said. Most other city IT systems were restored last week from the ransomware attack that began around May 21.
City asset management systems are still being restored.
Full functionality for all users is expected some time next week.
