MedNow has cut the ribbon on its latest Martinez facility, along the Bobby Jones corridor.

The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce helped the Evans-based healthcare provider celebrate the opening of its new clinic, the former site of Martinez Urgent Care. Property records show that MedNow acquired the parcel at 210 Bobby Jones Expressway. in 2015.

“Our locations are meant to be in very visible areas that are convenient for people to come in and get their unscheduled care, or just to plan their care,” said MedNow president and chief medical officer Dr. Mark Newton. “We’re glad to finally get a chance to both beautify the corner a little bit on the outside, but far more on the inside, because that’s where we take care of patients and that’s where we take care of caregivers.”

Equipped with a digital X-ray room, the new medical office accepts walk-ins for various ailments and injuries — such as cold and flu, lacerations, broken bones or work-related injuries, and also conduct pre-employment physicals for CDL licensees and Department of Transportation workers.

“Between our medications, our lab work and our digital X-ray, we can meet those needs that are not quite an emergency department level here,” Newton said. “Really, lots of things I see in the emergency department can be handled with a physician here.”

This is MedNow’s ninth medical center in the CSRA since opening its first facility in Evans, near the intersection of North Belair and Columbia roads, in 2008. Its clinic in Washington, Ga. opened last December, with a ribbon cutting on Jan. 17. Other locations include Thomson, Grovetown and south and west Augusta.

Seven to eight caregivers will be working at the clinic on a given shift. More than 25 healthcare workers — doctors, nurse practitioners, physicians’ assistants — rotate shifts between all of the MedNow locations.

Newton, State Representative for Georgia’s 127th House District, stressed concern for caregivers as a priority, noting a shortage of healthcare workers across the state.

“We want to make sure they’re all cared for, that they have the tools they need to really enjoy their job,” he said. “Not just do their job right, actually enjoy their job.
