Midville, Augusta men indicted by federal authorities

Cordell John Henry Cobb was indicted Tuesday for an armed robbery spree across the Southern District of Georgia last year.

Two area men have been indicted in U.S. District Court on gun, drug and armed robbery charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia announced the indictments Tuesday.

Cordell Cobb of Midville in Burke County was Indicted for allegedly committing armed robberies at convenience stores, a dollar store and a restaurant in Burke, Emanuel, Glascock, Ware and Chatham counties from January to June of last year. 

Cobb, 23, brandished a gun to rob store owners during the crime spree, according to the 18-count indictment.

Tommy Lee Porter of Madrid Drive in Augusta, was also indicted this week by a federal grand jury.

Porter, 55, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and in furtherance of drug trafficking, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, and possession of methamphetamine.

The indictments are part of a continued multi-agency crackdown on gun possession called Project Safe Neighborhoods.

“As illegally possessed firearms proliferate in our community, our office continues to hold accountable those who threaten the safety of our neighborhoods,” said Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. attorney for the Southern District.
