Date: March 10, 2025

Miller-Motte College Augusta has announced the launch of its upcoming Electrical Certificate Program, which will graduate its students with the Georgia requirements to get electrical license to work for comm or residential electrical companies.

Fortifying the area’s electrical workforce

It’s debuting later this month, and according to the university’s Executive Director Dr. Chandra Johnson, class sizes will be capped at around 15 students to keep instruction time personal.

Students will be able to complete the program in as little as 10 months, after training centered on installing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems safely.

Dr. Johnson said that this program could be key for adding to the electrical workforce in the Augusta community and surrounding area.

“At Miller-Motte, we are very, very passionate about giving back to the community,” she said.

Curriculum focused on nationwide industry standards

She said that the program is designed to directly prepare students for the workforce, using a curriculum developed by National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), which is a leading provider of construction education for industry education programs.

Dr. Johnson added that the NCCER curriculum is widely used nationwide which could also prove neficial to students.

“If they were to relocate somewhere else…they could take that [knowledge] anywhere they go.”

Timeline

The program will be officially set in motion on March 17, and its inaugural spring class will begin on April 21. An open house – welcome to members of the public – will be held on March 21 for those interested in enrolling.
