MIS Committee to discuss resolution for property tax relief for timber tax

The Columbia County Management and Internal Services Committee will discuss a resolution granting temporary tax relief authorized by House Bill 223.

According to the agenda document, HB 223 gives property tax relief for timber tax in counties that were affected by Hurricane Helene. 

“This resolution declares that Columbia County contains eligible timber property, consents to grant tax relief, requires that taxpayers seeking such relief submit certification and waive the levy and collection of payment taxes otherwise due for the final quarter of 2024 and during each quarter of 2025,” according to the agenda document. 

Staff is recommending approval.

The MIS Committee will also discuss the purchase of replacement weapons for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. 

According to the agenda document, CCSO is looking to purchase replacement firearms and rifles for a total of $762,975.50. Of that amount, $100,000 will be funded from the Sheriff’s Assets Forfeiture Fund and the remaining amount from TAVT.

Staff is recommending approval. 

The committee will also discuss awarding a bid and contract to RW Allen Construction for the construction of Performing Arts Center Support Facility.

According to the agenda document, eight bids were received and RW Allen Construction was the low bidder with a base bid of $9.7 million. The county is planning to build a two-story, 17,000 square foot venue that will have event and storage space to support the PAC.

Development and Planning Services Committee

The DPS Committee will discuss alcoholic beverage licenses for MSM 100 LLC dba Appling Liquor & Wine, for Ironwood West LLD dba Ironwood Tavern and Vault 221 LLC

Staff is recommending approval of all three requests.
