A missing 16-year-old girl from Clayton County, Georgia, was rescued Monday from her alleged trafficker at a Comfort Inn and Suites in Grovetown, authorities said.
The suspect, 41-year-old Monica Daughtery of Augusta, was taken into custody at the hotel, located at 4071 Jimmie Dyess Parkway, and charged with multiple counts of human trafficking for sexual servitude.
According to the Georgia Attorney General’s Office, the case stems from an ongoing human trafficking investigation by the state’s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit, which originated from the Attorney General’s Office. Daughtery, who is listed as working as a cleaner, faces charges of trafficking a person for sexual servitude (maintaining), trafficking a person for sexual servitude (transporting), and trafficking a person for sexual servitude (financial gain). She was also cited for driving while her license was suspended and having no insurance.
The victim had been reported missing from Clayton County since August 2025.
The Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit, launched in 2019 with the support of Governor Brian Kemp, First Lady Marty Kemp and the Georgia General Assembly, has since secured more than 60 convictions and helped over 200 children escape trafficking situations.
The unit operates under Attorney General Chris Carr’s Prosecution Division, which also includes the Gang Prosecution Unit, the White Collar and Cyber Crime Unit, and the Organized Retail Crime Unit. The Human Trafficking Unit is based in Atlanta with satellite offices in Macon and Augusta.
