Mod Home, a new home décor shop downtown, had its ribbon cutting event Wednesday afternoon.
The celebratory affair was coordinated by the Downtown Development Authority of Augusta. Representatives from the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Augusta Black Chamber of Commerce, as well as District 1 Commissioner Jordan Johnson, were also in attendance to welcome the business downtown.

“Anytime that a business invests in downtown Augusta, spend your hard-earned money in downtown Augusta, it’s certainly an opportunity for us to come by and say congratulations,” Johnson said.

Mod Home opened three weeks prior, after some nine weeks of preparations and the renovation of the Broad Street storefront that once housed Crosby’s Women’s Apparel store.
The store offers modern-style home furnishings as well as interior design services.

The store exemplifies its namesake, economically using its 2,600 square feet to showcase its wares, sleek, angular furniture with earthen tones, with plenty of visual references to Tom Ford, the brand named for the famed fashion designer. Owner Kayla Bosch says all of it, including the prominent Tom Ford displays, are just elements of the shop’s modern style.

“I’ve just always enjoyed [interior design],” said owner Kayla Bosch. “I’ve always had an eye for it, and wanted to open a furniture store, something available to people looking for modern stuff in Augusta.”

Though its ribbon-cutting was Wednesday afternoon, the store is planning its own larger, grand opening next month on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Mod Home Augusta is located at 970 Broad St.
