Mold and expired milk found during health inspections

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections conducted on Oct. 13–17.

Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

This week’s lowest health inspection score was an 87 earned by a Subway, located at 4104 Windsor Spring Road, in Hepzibah.

During the inspection, the inspector noticed a mold-like substance on equipment.

“Observed mold like substance nozzle portion of the ice dispenser,” the report stated. “Clean nozzle on the ice dispenser.”

The inspector also reported finding temperature controlled safety foods not being stored at their mandated temperature, resulting in nine points being docked from the health score.

“Observed [temperature control safety] food in prep top cooler and [walk-in-cooler] not being held at 41F or below,” the report stated. “Fix [walk-in-cooler] and place [temperature control safety] food on ice until [walk-in-cooler] is fixed.”

The second lowest score of the week was an 87 given to a Roznicks Kitchen, located at 1670 15th St., in Augusta.

The inspector deducted nine points for noticing food improperly stored.

“Observed raw meat products (beef, pork, and chicken) stored together on same shelf,” the report stated. “Store food according to minimum internal cooking temperatures. Have space in between food if limited on space.”

During the inspection, the inspector deducted four more points for finding food past its expiration date.

“Observed degreasers stored on shelves holding clean dishes,” the report stated. “Do not store toxic substances next to food contact surfaces.”

The inspector deducted another point for the most recent health inspection score not being posted.

Observed milk held past discard date of 10/12/2025 in cooler,” the report stated. “Discard. Monitor use-by dates and discard when appropriate.”
