The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections on March 3–7.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was an 81 earned by a McAlister’s Deli, located at 3602 Exchange Lane, Unit 3, in Augusta.
During the inspection, the inspector noted observing food improperly stored, which resulted in a nine point deduction
“Observed TCS foods cheese -42F, tomatoes -43F, tri-peppers -46F, and club bombs -46F cold held above 41F inside the coolers,” the report stated. “Maintain cold held TCS foods at 41F or below.”
The inspector also noted witnessing employees not wearing proper gear for food prepping.
“Observed an employee not wearing a hair restraint during active food prep. Observed an employee not wearing a beard restraint during active food prep,” the report stated.
The inspector also deducted two points for the health score for noticing the previous health score not being posted and observing wet dishes being left out.
“Observed wet nesting of clean dishes,” the report stated. “Allow dishes to properly air dry before stacking.”
The second lowest score of the week was a score of 83 given to Rack and Grill II, located at 3801 Mike Padgett Highway, in Augusta.
The inspector noted observing raw chicken being improperly stored over other foods, which resulted in a nine point reduction
“Observed raw chicken stored over raw beef,” the report stated. “Raw chicken should be stored below all other foods.”
The inspector also noted food being stored without proper labeling, which resulted in another point reduction.
“Observed a pack of hotdogs not in original container without new prep and discard date,” the report stated. “Food needs current prep and discard dates.”
The restaurant was also docked four points for the inspector seeing an unlabeled bottle of sanitizer.
“Observed working bottle of sanitizer without label,” the report stated. “All chemical working containers need labels.”
Following the Rack and Grill II inspection, the third lowest score of the week was an 85 given to Red Crab, located at 3206 Peach Orchard Road, Suite 6, in Augusta.
Throughout the inspection, the inspector reported observing multiple employee drinks spread throughout the kitchen, which resulted in a four point reduction.
“Observed multiple employee drinks in prep areas of the main kitchen,” the report stated. “Employee drinks and food need to be kept in a designated area.”
The inspector also noticed a handwashing sink being blocked, and deducted another four points from the facility’s score.
“Observed blocked handwashing sink. Observed one handwashing sink without soap and paper towel dispenser not working,” the report stated.
Finally, the inspector observed mold-like substance on kitchen equipment, and deducted another four points from the health score.
“Observed mold like substance in the ice-maker,” the report stated.
