Responders found two individuals needing medical attention after the hang glider had crashed, according to a tweet at the Augusta Fire/EMA Twitter account. One person was reported as being seriously injured and the other was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the tweets.

However, a subsequent email from Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. William McCarty at 9:38 p.m. stated that the pilot was transported to Augusta University Medical Center by Gold Cross EMS for non life threatening injuries.

McCarty reported that the “small aircraft had crashed after the pilot had attempted to take off from a makeshift runway behind a residence. The aircraft was occupied by the pilot and one passenger.”

The passenger was said to be OK.

The incident remains under investigation.
