Multiple Columbia County meetings slated for upcoming week

This upcoming week will be a busy week in Columbia County when it comes to government and board meetings.

Grovetown City Council

The Grovetown City Council will meet for a work session at 6 p.m. and regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12 in the council chambers at the Grovetown City Hall. One of the items on agenda is a discussion about the approval process for apartments or apartment complexes.

Columbia County committees

The Columbia County Development and Planning Services Committee and Management and Internal Services Committee will both meet on Tuesday, Aug. 13. The meetings will start at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center complex. 

On the agenda for the DPS committee are two alcoholic beverage applications for Gregory M. Parker for Parker’s #89 and #104. The applicant is looking for a license to sell beer and wine for off premise consumption for 925 Husk Way and 5095 Washington Road.

Staff is recommending approval of both alcoholic beverage licenses request.

Additionally, on the agenda for the MIS committee is approval of the fiscal year 2025 agreement with Alliance for Fort Eisenhower. 

“The Fiscal Year 2025 budget provides Commissioner’s discretionary funds for various services. The attached provision of service agreement with the Alliance for Fort Eisenhower (also known as CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon) in the amount of $25,000 is being presented for approval,” according to the agenda document

Columbia County Library Board

The Columbia County Library Board will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 11:30 a.m. at the Evans Library. On the agenda under unfinished business are the books “I’ll Give You the Sun” by Jandy Nelson, “Heat Wave” by TJ Klune, “True You: A Gender Journey” by Gwen Agna and “Tell Me: What Children Really Want to Know About Bodies, Sex and Emotions” by Katherine von der Gathen to be discussed.

Books still waiting to be reviewed are “The Bone Spindle” by Leslie Vedder, “You Know Me Well” by Nina LaCour and “Meet Cute Diary” by Emery Lee. New books up for reconsideration are “The Extraordinaries” by TJ Klune and “Flash Fire” by TJ Klune.

Columbia County Board of Education

The Columbia County Board of Education will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Board of Education office on Hereford Farm Road. The Board will receive an update on different projects and the school year so far. 

Special recognition will also be given to the Georgia School Boards Association Youth Advisory Council and the National Junior Beta Club Competition.

Columbia County Planning Commission

The Columbia County Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15 in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center complex.  On the agenda is a Major PUD (Planned Unit Development) revision for 785 Jones Creek, which was postponed from a previous meeting

“The subject property is located in the clubhouse area off Hammonds Ferry in the Jones Creek subdivision, and to the north of the cul-de-sac on Tindall Drive. The property is zoned PUD (Planned Unit Development) as part of the Jones Creek subdivision, as are all surrounding properties. The property currently contains the community pool and pool house; the applicants are proposing to demolish the existing pool house and reconstruct a larger pool house on the site. The larger pool house would provide ADA accessible bathrooms as well as additional community gathering areas,” according to the agenda document
