Tuesday will be a busy day in Columbia County as the Board of Commissioners committees, Board of Elections, Regional Library Board and Columbia County Library Board will all meet.
Board of Commissioners committees
Due to the Christmas holiday, all five of the Board of Commissioners committees are meeting on Tuesday.
On the agenda for the Development and Planning Services Committee is three alcohol beverage licenses, including one for Towne Center Tavern, LLC, which is located at 7025 Evans Towne Center Blvd. Suite 205.
The restaurant is looking to sell beer, wine, and distilled spirits for on premise consumption. The staff is recommending approval.
Also on the agenda is the acceptance of a donation from the Save the Columns Fund.
“The Save the Columns Fund, which was formed to preserve the columns and other
elements from the old Teacher’s Cottage from the Evans School, would like to donate $7,522.65 to Columbia County with the intent of the funds going to the Columbia County Museum,” according to the agenda document.
Staff is recommending accepting the donation.
A resolution to dissolve the Greenspace Advisory Board, stating the board is no longer the preferred way to get community feedback about greenspace, trail network planning or getting property.
The Public Works and Engineering Services Committee will discuss a professional services contract with Booker + Vick Architects for the design of the renovation to Savannah Rapids Pavilion for $670,300. It will be funded through the Public Facilities Authority Bond.

“This item is for the professional services contract with Booker + Vick Architects to provide architecture and engineering services for the renovation of Savannah Rapids Pavilion. The design is scheduled to be completed by fall 2025,” according to the agenda document.
Staff is recommending approval.
The meetings will start at 8:30 a.m. and continue one after the other. The meetings will take place in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center Complex. For more information, visit columbiacountyga.gov.
The Community and Emergency Services Committee, Management and Internal Services Committee and Audit Committee are also meeting.
Board of Elections
The Columbia County Board of Elections will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the Board of Elections office.
The only item under new business it to look over voter registration numbers.

Library boards
The Greater Clarks Hill Regional Library Board will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Evans Library.
Under new business is a discussion about the guidelines for Columbia County libraries that the Board of Commissioners approved in September. These guidelines divide books up into age-appropriate categorizations.
There has been some pushback against the guidelines, with some claiming that moving books from one section to another is a form of censorship. There are 20 people on the agenda scheduled to speak for and against these guidelines.
On Saturday, Dec. 7, a group held a protest outside the library against the guidelines.

The Columbia County Library Board will meet after the regional board, tentatively scheduled to start at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the Evans Library.
The only items on the agenda are reports from the Friends of the Library, treasure, county library manager and Greater Clarks Hill Regional Library (GCHRL). There are no items under unfished business and new business.
