Munchies Lab is back — or at least a form of it is.

Patty and Ramiro Galvan of El Rey Group, which owns La Cocina De El Rey in Grovetown and Taqueria El Rey in Augusta, announced in a video post on Facebook, Tuesday, that while the return of the Munchies Lab restaurant project may be further down the road, in the meantime it will reemerge as a new concept.

Munchies Snack will take the earlier restaurant’s model of unique fusion dishes, but offer it in smaller bites, with fresh fruit, ice cream and smoothies among the many elements that customers will have to choose from to make their own snack combinations.

The Galvans made sure to note in their message that the new shop is “kid-friendly,” and that the Munchies Lab food truck will still be available twice a month at the new Columbia County location.

The restaurateurs did not disclose when the new snack spot will open, but did give out its address: 3830 Washington Road, Ste. 7, in Martinez.

“We wanted to thank you for all your support,” said Patty Galvan in the video message. “We look forward to opening our doors to a new venture!”
