The Academy of Richmond County Musketeers came away with a 41-6 victory over the Josey High School Eagles Friday.
The Musketeers (2-1) started the game with a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never relinquished the lead.
In the first half, the Musketeers jumped out to a 20-6 lead behind the running of Malcolm Cochrane and Tay’Kwon Bell. Bell scored the game’s first touchdown with a three-yard run. Sophomore Will Dunagan kicked the extra point to make the score 7-0 in favor of the Musketeers with 8:59 left to go in the first quarter.

Cochrane then followed that up with another three-yard touchdown run behind the Musketeers offensive line. Dunagan would then follow up with another extra point conversion to make the score 14-0 in favor of the Musketeers.
The Eagles (1-1) would score next on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Altravion Simpkins to Quashawn McCladdie, but the extra point attempt failed.
The Musketeers then increased their lead to 20-6 with another touchdown run from Cochrane. The extra point attempt by Dunagan was unsuccessful.
Josey High School gained some momentum in the second quarter, but bad snaps and penalties halted their offense.
The Musketeers had another chance to increase their lead before the half, but they were unsuccessful.

At the start of the second half, the Musketeers would go on to score on a four-yard touchdown pass from Jack Murphy to Joshua Cohrs, making the score 34-6 with 9:16 to go in the third quarter.
The Musketeers would then score again on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Murphy to Kellen McDuffie, who had several impressive catches in the game.
The Musketeers followed that up with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Cohrs to McDuffie to begin the fourth quarter, making the score 41-6.
In the end, the Musketeers lead proved to be insurmountable for the Eagles.
The next game for Josey High School will be on Thursday, Sept. 8 vs Glenn Hills High School. The Academy of Richmond County will next play East Laurens High School on Friday, Sept. 9.
