Referring to itself as a martini bar gives Bar West a bougie vibe, but this establishment is as unfussy as it gets. No LBDs or stilettos or pretense here. It’s casual and comfortable, especially with its large, relaxed patio. There are several solid regulars who claim their “usual” spots, emanating a familiar “Cheers” feel. And the bartenders? They’re like old friends who treat you well. Such is the equation for the perfect after work hangout space.
Naked Epicurean: Lava Drinks and Roller Skates
My bartender Pablo was knowledgeable and charming, selecting a Lemon Drop Martini to commence my weekend. While I sipped and sat at the beautifully lit bar, he spilled the tea on this hidden west Augusta watering hole. The establishment has been open eight years. Happy Hour is six days a week from 4 to 8 p.m., and during those magical hours, these are the specials — well drinks are two for one, domestics are $2, imports are $2.75, and Fireballs are $3. Bar West is especially loyal to its F+B patrons, rewarding them with happy hour prices all day.

Tuesdays through Thursdays are karaoke nights, and college Saturdays are a big deal- — so big that the owner grills food, and the patrons bring sides as they sit side by side cheering for (or against) each other’s teams.
The sum of all these parts explains why the patrons here are so loyal. Bar West is more than pretty bar lights and a spacious outdoor space. It’s a place where you become part of a family who is always glad to see you walk through their doors.
The Naked Epicurean Visits Stay Social
So if you go to Bar West, it’s located on Walton Way Ext. in #3 and is open from 4 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday. It’s closed on Sunday. And as always, tell them the Naked Epicurean sent you.
Ann Beth Strelec is known around town as the Naked Epicurean. Find out about area cocktails at The Augusta Press on the first and third Friday or on Instagram @NakedEpicurean.
