Naked Epicurean: Savor Father’s Day at Draft Society Taproom

With Father’s Day looming right around the corner, you may find yourself wringing your hands as your toil over that perennial question: What do I get Dad this year?

While BBQ tools are popular options, as are ties and electronic gadgets, how about considering something intangible this year, such as spending some quality time with dear ol’ Dad. My suggestion? Show Dad how much you appreciate him, miss him and love him by taking him downtown to Draft Society Taproom to kick back and relax with a few cold brews. At Draft Society, you have numerous options–which? how much? and where?

1. First, the which.  Not sure what Dad likes to drink? With 43 taps, Draft Society has plenty of choices:

▪︎craft beers + ciders

▪︎kombucha

▪︎wine + sangria

▪︎coffee

▪︎Truly seltzer

▪︎craft root beer

2. And because you’re tapping it yourself, you get to decide how much of each you want. You want a tall, cold 12 oz glass? Fine. Just a snoot for taste? Alright. Mix + match?  You do you. (It’s an ideal setting if you have commitment issues.)

3. Now that you have your libation(s), it’s time to CYOA. Entertain yourselves with

▪︎darts,

▪︎foos ball,

▪︎table shuffleboard/curling,

▪︎cornhole,

▪︎or wax nostalgic as you lounge in the AC indoors or perhaps outdoors on the recently murali-ized patio. I’m sure Dad has some jokes or advice he’d like to impart if you’re willing to give him your ear.

On my recent visit I scouted out a range of picks.

🍺 The first was the vivid ACE SpACE Bloody Orange Cider, “luminous and vibrant in color, seeping with blood orange in shades of tangy, tart and sweet citrus fruit. Juicy apple builds a foundation on the palate while the bold blood orange, carbonation and acid move sprightly across the mid, finishing with an off-dry zest.” My beer-drinking partner looked down his snobby nose at my choice, but I loved this citrusy + summery bevvy and imagined drinking several more glasses at a later date. (Unfiltered; 6.9% ABV)

🍺Next was the limited release Mischief Managed: Guava/Passionfruit from Monday Night Brewing, one in a “series of fruited Berliner Weisses…aged in French oak Foeder on passionfruit and guava. Tart, crisp and clean, this juicy Berliner Weisse is refreshingly dry. Berliner Weisse yeasts are notorious for causing mischief in the beer if not managed correctly, so we kept this beer squirreled away in our French oak foeders at the Garage for months. A fruit-forward, easy sipper.” The name lured me in. The fruitiness hooked me. The 5.5% ABV tempted me to drink another pour.

🍺 I then opted for the beer with the highest ABV (11%): Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel from Halve Mann Brewery. Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel is one of the first quadrupels in Belgium.

It is an ever-evolving beer, as it is top-fermented, refermenting in its vessel. Dark brown in color, “leaning towards a stout but with the dense, light brown head of a caffè latte…the aromas are zesty and elegant with hints of roast malt, coriander, dark fruits, aniseed and roast chestnut. The finish is slightly syrupy.” It was robust, filling and quite delightful.

Here’s the bottom line, kids. Dad probably has all the knickknacks + tchotchkes + tees + socks one man can handle. But what he doesn’t ever have is too much time with his children. As his favorite child, you should treat him to some face-to-face chats over a cool beverage.  Don’t you owe it to Good Ol’ Dad? After all, events from your childhood might be the very reasons he drinks.

Take advantage of everything Draft Society Taproom has to offer your dad on Father’s Day. (But do it on a day other than Sunday, as they are closed.) And don’t forget to tell them nakedepicurean sent you. 💋
