Naked Epicurean: Solé Is the Place for Mules

Aside from expansive two-story outdoor seating, sushi specials and occasional live music, Solé has the best selection of mules in Augusta. I learned about the Jalapeño Mule in 2015 when the industrial-chic restaurant first opened, and I have been a fan ever since. If, however, a vodka cocktail with a tinge of heat mixed with bright citrus and zippy ginger beer doesn’t appeal to you, they also serve:

▪︎ Le Mule made with lavender-infused Don Q

▪︎ the Peach Basil Mule

▪︎ the Mediterranean Mule made with cranberry juice

▪︎ the Irish Mule with Irish whiskey

▪︎ the Kentucky Mule with bourbon

This was my first opportunity to have McKarti as a bartender. She’s confident, knowledgeable, and personable-a sheer delight. After I ordered my requisite mule, I asked her to choose my next cocktails.

My first “Bartender’s Choice” cocktail was the Spiced Berry Margarita. It’s comprised of jalapeño-infused Espolòn tequila and raspberry puree with juice and served on rocks with chili-lime rim. Its profile is sweet and berry-forward, tasting of summer celebrations.

Next round McKarti chose to make an off-menu drink, the Sweet Heat. To the base of Espolòn reposado, she added jalapeño simple syrup, Triple Sec, lime juice, pineapple juice and house sour mix. It was a refreshing respite on a balmy Augusta evening.
