NAMI Walks Augusta to reschedule mental health awareness event

NAMI Walks Augusta's annual mental heath walk event has been postponed.

Date: October 02, 2024

An annual, guided walk by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has been postponed from its original date of Oct. 5 in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

Details regarding rescheduling are not yet available, according to NAMI Augusta Communications spokesperson Merika Hawes.

Hawes said the decision to postpone was made on Monday morning.

NAMI Walks Augusta aims to bring together participants of all ages and abilities to walk in solidarity for mental health, promoting the importance of early intervention, access to resources, and reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness.

This year marks the fifth that this event has been held locally.

Those hoping to attend can look for rescheduling updates by checking in on the NAMI Augusta website regularly.

The original event was set to be held from 9am-1pm at Gateway Park, 215 Partnership Drive in Grovetown. Whether the event will be rescheduled for the same time and location has yet to be confirmed.
