Grovetown City Council members discussed the design of the new Grovetown Depot and cost of living at their work session Thursday, Aug. 25
The Grovetown Depot was demolished in 1973, but a design to build a new depot may be approved soon. The new depot is expected to be built close to Grovetown City Hall, across the street at a vacant lot according to City Administrator Elaine Matthews.
Matthews and other council members said they are really excited about the new depot possibly coming to Grovetown.
“This is a project that is close to our heart, and I think it is a much-needed facility,” Matthews said.
It will also be a spot for possible events, meetings or weddings, Matthews said.

“Right now, we are turning down people at Liberty Park because they are wanting space for a wedding, a shower, a birthday party and things like that. So, I think this will be a great addition for the community,” Matthews said during the work session.
After a discussion at a previous council meeting about dispatchers leaving Grovetown due to low pay and due to inflation, staff proposed a cost-of-living adjustment. Grovetown Assistant City Administrator and Director of Finance Bradley Smith recommended a 5% cost of living adjustment to take effect Oct. 1.
Both the new depot design and cost of living adjustment is expected to be voted on at the next council meeting on Monday, Sept. 12.
