New details: Augusta murder suspect shot at victim 11 times

Daniel Burke, suspect

Date: November 13, 2022

There are new details in Augusta’s latest homicide as authorities release the mugshot of the murder suspect.

Daniel Burke, 25, allegedly fired 11 times at victim Quidarius Collins at Norris Place Apartments following an argument around 10:22 p.m. Friday. First responders were able to talk to the victim, who claimed that Burke had robbed him before the shooting.

The suspect later claimed the shooting followed an argument, and he reacted by reaching into his waistband and pulling out his Glock 43 handgun. Collins was rushed to the hospital but died from his injuries.

While an initial press release indicated Collins was from Lincolnton, his family said he was originally from Warrenton. The victim’s sister said Collins was living in Augusta with his girlfriend and children. Collins, 25, is survived by three brothers and two sisters.

Meanwhile, the suspect has a short criminal history in the area, with previous arrests for shoplifting, marijuana and traffic offenses such as driving on a suspended license and speeding. Burke remained behind bars Sunday at the Richmond County Detention Center without bond on charges of murder and weapon possession.

The killing marks the 37th homicide in Richmond County, although that count does not include the deaths of two innocent drivers during police chases that led to murder charges against the fleeing suspects.

Norris Place Apartments is located at 1931 Murphy Road, and it was the scene of another shooting on June 21, 2022.
