New director of teaching and learning for ACPSD named

Date: June 22, 2024

The Aiken County Public School District has recently named Kathy Langston as the new director of teaching and learning, beginning in the 2024-25 school year.

Langston currently serves as the coordinator for the office of federal programs, where she has led schools in the development and implementation of Title I programs and ensured that Federal and State guidelines were met. She has assisted in the identification of gifted and talented students and led the district’s summer reading and intersession camps. Langston’s goal in her current role is to make sure equitable access to educational resources is provided for all students within the district.

Langston’s new role will provide support for teacher growth, content delivery and student achievement. She decided to accept this position due to a reconnection to teaching when she worked to develop, implement and train fourth-grade teachers on a new science curriculum.

“The experience reignited the teaching side of education for me,” Langston said. “I am excited to be back in a position to help teachers provide the best instruction, ensuring all students are able to excel and grow.”

Langston started her education career as an elementary school teacher in Richmond County. She moved over to Redcliffe Elementary School in 2005, and she was nominated in the 2013-14 school year as Teacher of the Year. Langston was then selected to be on the District’s Teacher of the Year Honor Court. She was Redcliffe’s School Improvement Team Coordinator, where she founded the school’s robotics club. Langston moved from Redcliffe Elementary to her current position in 2018.

“As I step into this new role, I am excited to support and collaborate with our dedicated educators to enhance student learning outcomes,” said Langston. “Together, we will continue to create an enriching and equitable educational environment for all students.”

Langston has a Bachelor of Arts degree in early childhood education from Augusta College and a Master of Education from Columbia College.

“My new role as director of teaching and learning is a significant milestone in my career which represents an incredible opportunity to make a broader impact on the educational community in Aiken County,” said Langston. “Ultimately, this position enables me to contribute to the success and growth of all Aiken County students, helping shape our district’s brighter future.”
