A tract of land behind Augusta’s Family YMCA Team Headquarters is site of an upcoming extended stay hotel.

Highside Companies, a real estate developer out of Denver, and landowner Hafeez Chaudhry plan to build a four-story Everhome Suites location at 1060 Claussen Road, with 120 rooms, according to the letter of intent accompanying a special exception application recently submitted to the Augusta Planning Department.

Everhome Suites is a midscale brand of extended-stay hotels under Maryland-based multinational hospitality company Choice Hotels whose other brands include Econo Lodge, Radisson, and Country Inn & Suites.

Choice Hotels first launched the Everhome Suites brand in 2020, opening the first hotel in California in 2022.

In August, Highside announced that it had received $500 million in financing from affiliates of New York investment firm Apollo Global Management for the nationwide expansion of Everhome Suites. As of September of this year there are some 17 of the hotels open, with 25 under construction. The proposed Augusta location is one of 45 Everhome Suites that Choice Hotels has down the pipeline.

The property is already zoned General Business (B-2). The petition seeks a special exception allowing construction of the hotel, as a previous special exception at the property for a similar development has expired. The Augusta Planning Commission will consider the request during its meeting on Jan. 5.
