Do you believe in ghosts?

A new haunted tour is giving Augusta’s bravest a chance to learn more about the city’s macabre past.

U.S. Ghost Adventures’ latest operation out of the garden city has been spooking guests since its debut in August.

The hour-long exploration delves into the history of the city’s most haunted sites, including the historic DeLaigle House, the old Medical College of Georgia and the Augusta Museum of History.

“We have had plenty of locals, and they seem to be very happy,” tour guide Philip Rhodes commented on the community’s reception of the new tour.

He also noted that he’s been surprised at the amount of non-locals who have traveled to Augusta for the tour.

‘You’re not always alone’

Rhodes led a tour last week, which just so happened to land on Friday the 13th, and afterward, he shared with the Augusta Press that he occasionally finds himself feeling spooked along the tour route.

“There’s times where I get goosebumps, [I] just kind of feel like, you’re not always alone,” he said.

Rhodes said that he knows the bones of the city well from growing up in Augusta and being raised on local scary stories.

“I get to revisit my love of ghosts and Augusta history,” he said. “I’ve also met some really interesting people from across the country, with different stories and backgrounds. It’s just fun to be here.”

Yasmeen Prince took on the tour on Friday the 13th; she said that as a new Augustan originally from Florida, she appreciated the chance to learn more about the city’s history in an engaging way.

“Tonight was very informative,” said Prince. “I love old buildings, I love ghost stories…and I learned a lot.”
