New Meetings Scheduled for Georgia Redistricting Committees

Members of the Georgia House Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment Committee and the Senate Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee have a series of meeting scheduled on Monday, Aug. 30.

The meetings are billed as an educational day for the committee members. These are not public hearings, and no public comment will be taken. However, the public can watch the sessions at this website.

The first will be a joint meeting of the two committees from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. It will be in the Coverdell Legislative Office Building in Atlanta.

Later that same day, the House committee, chaired by Rep. Bonnie Rich (R-Suwanee), will hold a separate meeting. It will be from 1:30 – 4 p.m., also in the CLOB.

Both committees continue to accept written testimony from Georgia residents. Comments can be submitted here.

Coming up in South Carolina, meetings are set around the state by South Carolina House Judiciary Committee Redistricting Ad Hoc Committee.

The committee, chaired by Rep. Chris Murphy (R-Dorchester), has 10 meetings scheduled beginning Sept. 8 in Myrtle Beach. The Aiken meeting is set for 6 – 8 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the Aiken Technical College Amphitheater.

These follow the recently completely sessions held by the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Redistricting Subcommittee. A meeting in Aiken was the last of the committee’s 10 sessions. This subcommittee is responsible for redrawing Congressional districts and state senate districts. Videos of all 10 meetings can be viewed here.

Dana Lynn McIntyre is an award-winning reporter who began working in radio news in her hometown of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She also worked as a television news photographer for a station in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Dana moved to Savannah, Ga. in 1984 to join the news team at WIXV-FM/I95 Radio. In early 1986, WBBQ Radio in Augusta invited her to interview for a position with the news department. Within three weeks, Dana was living in Olde Town and working at a legendary radio station. Dana left WBBQ in 1996 to join WJBF NewsChannel 6 as assignment manager. In 1998 she became a reporter/anchor covering law enforcement, crime and courts as well as witnessing two executions, one in Georgia, the other in South Carolina. She also spent time as an assignment manager-editor in Atlanta, metro New York City, and back in Augusta at WRDW Television. Dana joined The Augusta Press team in April 2021. Among Dana’s awards from the Georgia Associated Press Broadcasters Association are for Excellence in General Assignment Reporting, Spot News and Specialized Reporting. Dana also received an award for Public Service Reporting from the West Augusta Rotary Club for a story with actor LeVar Burton on his PBS Television show “Reading Rainbow."
