A new playground has been unveiled at the Eastview Community Center, whose old playground was previously burned down in an act of vandalism.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on the afternoon of April 14.

Two years in the making
The Eastview Community Center has been in the process of planning a restored playground for the past two years, according to Commissioner Jordan Johnson.
“These communities, specifically East Augusta, the community that is so near and dear to our hearts, has so many needs that we have been talking about addressing for many decades,” said Johnson.
He added that he was proud to see a crowd out on Monday to celebrate the grand opening of the playground, one of many of those needs within the city.

Updated equipment
Commissioner Johnson noted that the playground pre-vandalism was “run down” and not welcoming for children. However, the restored area includes updated equipment, safer fencing and a cleaner walking paths.
The new playground was designed and installed by Great Outdoors Play Systems and is equipped with multiple slides, a miniature climbing wall and tunnels.

The surrounding walking trail has also been cleared of woods and new fencing has been installed.
“It’s exciting for us to bring back to this community a vital amenity,” said the city’s Director of Recreation and Parks Tameka Williams.
Parent Shaquelrion Whitney said she plans to bring her family out to the new spot as often as possible.
“I feel good, I’m excited, like, to see everyone out here,” she said.
The community center and playground are located at 644 Aiken St. in Augusta.
