New Richmond County Board of Education members are sworn in

Five Richmond County Board of Education members attended a swearing-in ceremony on the afternoon of Jan. 7, all of which are in the first days of a four-year term. 

These included Shontae Boyd, District 4, Monique Braswell, District 5, Mary Jane Abbot, District 8 and Samantha Valentine, District 10. Also sworn in was re-elected board member Shawnda Stovall who will represent District 1 for another term. 

These individuals were elected for their positions in November.

Furthermore, interim superintendent Dr. Malinda Cobb was sworn in, taking the place of former superintendent Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw, who resigned in early December

The proceedings were conducted by Augusta Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Charles Lyons, as well as Richmond County State Court Judge Ashanti Pounds

“We have a new board, so it’s just great to see everybody come out and, and support that,” said Larry Fletcher, attorney for the Richmond County Board of Education.
