FreshTake, a new grocery store concept, is on its way to Augusta near I-20.
A visit to the Washington Plaza shopping center, at the former site of the Whole Foods Market, which closed in 2017, will find posters promoting the new store which, according to a recent press release, will make robust use of the building’s available 42,000 square foot space.

Alongside a Starbucks, the market will boast a host of amenities, including indoor seating for 130 distributed across a mezzanine above the café and two outdoor balconies, an outdoor patio with a walk-up barbecue smokehouse and a five-hole putting green next to the fire pit.
“Jackson’s” will be a beer and wine bar in the store, offering 10 tap beers under 13 TV screens.
The superstore’s concept is expansive, incorporating dining options such as “grill as you shop” service with preparation by indoor chefs. There is to be a sushi bar, a smoothie bar, a sandwich bar and home delivery service.

The concept comes from Jackson Mitchell, the 28-year-old CEO of Jackson Mitchell Holdings, which acquired the Giant Farmer’s Market Corporation and its chain of grocery stores, based in the Atlanta area, in 2019.
Mitchell is a son of the Albertville, Ala.-based Mitchell Grocery Corp. family, which owns the Foodland Alabama grocery store chain.

“We are thrilled to introduce FreshTake to Augusta,” stated Mitchell in the release. “This store represents the culmination of my career and a deep love for the grocery business. Our goal is to create a space that not only offers top-quality groceries but also becomes a hub for the community, where people can come together to enjoy great food, entertainment, and convenience.”

FreshTake Grocery, which says it will bring some 130 jobs, is scheduled to open summer of 2024 at 2907 Washington Road, suite 102.
