Members of the North Augusta City Council will start the new year with a plan to build a tourism-based website. A resolution hiring a firm to create the website is on the Jan. 3 meeting agenda.

In April 2021, the city issued a request for proposals, looking for a company to design and host a website that will promote tourism in North Augusta. The city received nine proposals.

After the proposals were reviewed, Madden Preprint Media, LLC was selected for the website development. The company is based in Tucson, Ariz.

If the resolution is approved, the contract caps total project costs at $50,000. That will cover website design and development, the initial year of hosting and maintenance, brand development and designing a logo.

The money will come from funds in the Accommodations Tax Fund designated for advertising and promotion. Money for future years will be included in request submitted as part of the annual budgeting process.

Also on the agenda, Mayor Britton Williams will recognize several students who submitted winning essays on the topic “If I were Mayor of North Augusta, what would I do to make the city a better place to live”. The students were not able to attend when winners were announced during the Dec. 20, 2021, meeting.

The Public Power Hour will precede the regular meeting. This will be the first time the public session will be held at its new regular time of 5:30 p.m. The council meeting starts at 6 p.m.
