The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death of a former Augusta Commissioner.
The Aiken County Coroner’s Office responded to Kalmia Apartments Lane in Graniteville at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14 to investigate the death of Bernard E. Harper, 73, said Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.
EMS had responded at approximately 6 p.m. after Harper was found unresponsive by an extended family member. It was determined by EMS he was deceased and was pronounced dead by the coroner’s office at 6:50 p.m.
Ables said an autopsy has been scheduled in Newberry to determine the cause of death, but no foul play is suspected.
The coroner’s office is continuing to investigate the matter.
