A North Augusta man with a history of drug trafficking and gun charges has been sentenced to 151 months in federal prison.
Maurice Antwain Diggs, 43, will serve more than 12 years in prison after an earlier guilty plea, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia.
Diggs pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana, iit said.
Diggs had pending Richmond County charges after a 2019 search by sheriff’s deputies found large amounts of drugs, cash and firearms in his Augusta apartment. But then a 2020 search of his Augusta motel room found more even more drugs, guns and cash, the release said.

“Maurice Diggs’ long history of illegal activity is encapsulated in this case in which he was arrested on drug and gun charges while awaiting trial from a previous arrest for guns and drugs,” said U.S. Attorney David Estes.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office worked with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on the case.
“The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is committed to working with our federal partners in the prosecution of cases where subjects do not take advantage of opportunities of rehabilitation that are afforded to them,” Sheriff Richard Roundtree said.
