North Augusta woman killed by boyfriend is being remembered as nurse, grandmother

Kathy Hydrick (from her obituary)

Date: March 30, 2025

A North Augusta woman killed by her boyfriend Thursday in a murder-suicide is being remembered as a former nurse and loving grandmother to seven grandchildren.

No formal funeral is planned for 67-year-old Kathy Ann Hydrick, but the family plans to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, on Jefferson Davis Highway in Graniteville.

According to her obituary, she was a 1974 graduate of North Augusta High School who went on to earn a nursing degree from Augusta Technical College. She was formerly a licensed practical nurse at various healthcare facilities in Augusta.

“Kathy enjoyed flowers, gardening, and spending time with her family,” the obituary says. “However, she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her beloved grandchildren.”

She is survived by two sons, a sister and niece as well as other relatives, friends and acquaintances.

Authorities say Hydrick was fatally shot Thursday morning on Walnut Court by her boyfriend, 71-year-old Keith Jones, who then killed himself. Jones, the homeowner, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and Hydrick was found in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to the body.
