Members of North Augusta City Council met Monday night in the first of the newly-scheduled study sessions.

The sessions are part of new Mayor Briton Williams’ leadership. The goal is to give the council more time to review items for the next regular council meeting. The sessions also give city department heads time to update the mayor and council on current and pending projects.

Mayor Williams outlined some of his plans for the next several weeks.

The first “Meet the Mayor” event will be on May 20 and will be held in conjunction with the city’s “Third Thursday” activities 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown North Augusta. The mayor suggested council members, in teams of two, visit all the businesses and thank them for being part of the “Third Thursday” activities.

He will write his first blog this week that can be shared on social media. “This is a way to use social media the right way,” said Williams.

The first “Power Hour” will precede the June 7 regular meeting. It will be one hour when citizens can ask about concerns or interests that are not on the meeting agenda.

The study sessions will also result in a change for regular council meetings. Those meetings will start at 6 p.m. since study sessions will not be needed before the regular meetings.
