The numbers were there on Saturday, Sept. 17, giving North Augusta a solid win over Augusta in the second annual Mayor’s Trash Bash at the Border 2022.
Judging was based on how many volunteers showed up for each team. North Augusta City Administrator Jim Clifford released the results.
North Augusta had 152 volunteers participate in this year’s event. Augusta had 61 volunteers.

The event was coordinated by Keep Aiken County Beautiful and Keep Augusta Beautiful.
Although a lighthearted event, it carries a serious purpose. It is held the day after one of Georgia and South Carolina’s favorite events, the annual Border Bash party.
“This event is more than a litter cleanup, it’s about community! And the community really showed up to support North Augusta this year! It was a fun and eventful morning! Lots of families and groups! Several people came out for the second year in a row! Lots of litter removed from the riverfront!” Keep Aiken County Beautiful posted on its Facebook page.
At stake, in addition to bragging rights, is the Mayor’s Cup.
With Augusta’s win in the inaugural event, North Augusta Mayor Briton Williams had to attend an Augusta Commission meeting and present the cup to Mayor Hardie Davis.
At that Nov. 23, 2021, meeting, Williams vowed to bring the trophy home in 2022.
The North Augusta victory means Davis will have to attend a North Augusta council meeting to formally present Williams with the trophy.
The date that will happen has not yet been scheduled.
