The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections conducted on Oct. 20–24.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 75 earned by the Jerk City Truck, located at 2147 Eastside Court, in Augusta.
During the inspection, the inspector noticed the employee handwashing sink filled with items, and deducted four points from the health score.
“Observed handsink filled with junk,” the report stated. “Keep handsink free for handwashing.”
The inspector also reported finding the warewashing sink also filled items, resulting in four more points being docked from the health score.
“Observed warewashing sink filled with junk,” the report stated. “Keep warewashing sink for warewashing.”
The inspector deducted an additional four points for noticing damage due to insect activity.
“Observed damaged fly screen on truck,” the report stated. “Repair to keep pests out.”
The second lowest score of the week was a 78 given to an Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar, located at 2125 Windsor Spring Road, in Augusta.
The inspector deducted four points for noticing food improperly stored.
“Observed uncovered food in [reach-in-cooler and reach-in-fridge/freezer],” the report stated. “Food not in original container must be covered.”
During the inspection, the inspector deducted 13 more points for finding more food improperly stored and food past its expiration date.
Observed cheese in [prep top cooler] not being held at 41F or below,” the report stated. “… observed items in [walk-in-cooler] and prep top cooler being held past the discard date and time.”
The inspector deducted another point for the most recent health inspection score not being posted.
“Observed last inspection not posted,” the report stated.
Following the Applebee’s inspection, the third lowest score of the week was an 80 given to a local Southern Salad, located at 1008 Broad Street, in Augusta.
The inspector deducted four points for noticing bacteria on kitchen equipment.
“Observed pink buildup in bulk ice machine and black residue in ice spout in the front,” the report stated. “Clean. Increase cleaning frequency.”
During the inspection, the inspector deducted nine more points for finding food improperly stored.
“Observed [temperature control safety] foods (tomatoes-47 degrees Fahrenheit, eggs-46 degrees Fahrenheit, ham-47 degrees Fahrenheit, beef-46 degrees Fahrenheit, cheese-48 degrees Fahrenheit, and spring mix-65 degrees Fahrenheit) cold held above 41 degrees Fahrenheit in coolers and on countertop,” the report stated.
An additional four points were deducted for the inspector finding food unlabeled.
“Observed cheese, tomatoes, and deli salad stored without date marking in the coolers,” the report stated. “Ensure food is date marked with a prep and discard date.”
Another point was docked from the establishment’s health inspection score due to the most recent health inspection score not being posted.
“Observed old food service inspection report posted,” the report stated.
