SLED is investigating after a North Augusta Public Safety officer shot an armed suspect Sunday afternoon at a Sprint gas station where two other people had already been shot and killed.
According to North Augusta Public Safety, officers were dispatched to the station at 107 Edgefield Road for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, one officer encountered an armed suspect in the parking lot. Police say the suspect was shot by a responding officer.
Investigators later determined that two people had already been shot before officers arrived. Coroner Darryl Ables said Sunday night that “two victims have been pronounced dead on scene from gunshot wounds.”
“The victims will be identified after positive identification and notification of next-of-kin,” the coroner said.
NADPS officials said the shooting suspect was taken to a hospital. Because a North Augusta officer fired a weapon, SLED has taken over the investigation, as is standard procedure in South Carolina.
North Augusta Public Safety said all further questions should be directed to SLED.
