On the heels of a devastating hurricane, officials are taking no chances with the mix of rain, sleet and, possibly, snow that is forecasted for the weekend.
While computer modeling varies, most models agree that precipitation of some sorts will begin midmorning on Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, wet weather will continue throughout the day into early Saturday. Freezing temperatures may occur both Friday and Saturday nights.
Columbia County EMA Director Shawn Granato said his agency is monitoring all possibilities.
“Our Roads and Bridges teams are prepared and on standby should conditions surpass expectations. Currently, the teams are preparing to salt the bridges sometime later in the afternoon on Friday to help overnight conditions,” Granato said.
According to Granato, EMA does not want spread out salt too early so it would not be washed away by the rain.
Regardless of any snow or sleet, officials say residents should take precautions as temperatures are expected to drop to around 33 degrees. Leave faucets to drip overnight, and, of course, bring pets and plants indoors.
