Officials in Columbia County to talk taxes at separate meetings

Two government meetings will be taking place in Columbia County Tuesday night.

Setting a new millage rate will be discussed at Grovetown City Hall at 6 p.m.. July 19.

Other public hearings regarding the millage rate will be at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 26.

The current millage rate for the 2021 tax year in the city of Grovetown is 7.62 mills.

“The purpose of these meetings is to receive input and comments from citizens of Grovetown regarding the proposed millage rate for next year,” said according to the City of Grovetown website.

Columbia County will also have its regularly scheduled Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday, July 19, at 6 p.m.

A key topic for new discussion is the special purpose local-option sales tax.

Last month, town hall meetings were held to get input from residents on what they’d like to see created through the tax.
