A widespread outage has impacted cellular networks and might prevent residents from receiving or making calls, including to 911.
Augusta 911 reported the outage was affecting AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and other networks, although it appeared centered on AT&T.
If callers can’t get through, they should use a landline or ask someone on a different network to place the call, a city statement said.
The Associated Press reported AT&T, the nation’s largest network, experienced the most trouble. It had more than 73,000 outages including in Atlanta, Houston and Chicago that began around 3:30 a.m.
At 11:15 a.m. AT&T reported it had restored 75% of the affected network.
The company, which owns Cricket Wireless, asked impacted customers to connect to wifi to make calls.
