Authorities are investigating two connected shootings in Augusta early Tuesday that left one man dead and another injured.

Deputies first responded to a shooting on Heritage Circle before dawn, then a few hours later were called to Deen Avenue, where a man was fatally shot.

The first shooting happened around 3:25 a.m. on Heritage Circle. Deputies found 22-year-old Taequan Caldwell suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators say Caldwell and 28-year-old Deunte Demario Myers got into an argument inside an apartment. During the dispute, Caldwell reportedly fired a gun at Myers. Myers returned fire, striking Caldwell. No charges were filed at the scene, and the case will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office.

A few hours later, around 7:35 a.m., deputies responded to Deen Avenue after reports of another shooting. They found Myers suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital but later died.

After the investigation, authorities issued warrants for 21-year-old Tyrese Artavious Wesby of Waynesboro for murder and related charges. Wesby later turned himself in at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

“These incidents are a tragic reminder of how quickly disputes can escalate into violence,” said Sheriff Gino Brantley. “Our investigators are working diligently to determine the full circumstances surrounding both shootings. We extend our condolences to the family of Mr. Myers and ask the community to support one another while allowing the justice process to take its course.”

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 706-821-1020 or Crime Stoppers at 706-793-STOP.

Note: If you have a photo of Deunte Myers to share, please text it to 803-487-3224.
