McDuffie County’s primary election ballots have been tabulated, and the results are in.

One local race was decided during McDuffie County’s Democratic Primary. In the race
for the District 1A seat on the McDuffie County Commission, incumbent Sammie Wilson
received 671 (72.73%) votes, while challenger Derrick Smith received 251 (27.22%) votes, according to a news release.

Phyllis Wheeler, McDuffie County elections director, said Tuesday’s voting went smoothly, with very few
hiccups at the county’s two polling locations.

“The rain held off, and we had a steady stream of voters all day,” she said.

A little more than 30 percent (30.35%) of McDuffie County’s 14,878 registered voters cast
ballots in the May primary, Wheeler said.
