One person shot outside Planet Fitness in North Augusta

North Augusta police are investigating a shooting that injured an Augusta man Wednesday night in the parking lot outside Planet Fitness.

Around 11 p.m. Wednesday, a witness reported that a red car and another car were involved in a shooting incident in the parking lot at 1127 Knox Ave. Both vehicles then left the scene, and the red car showed up at University Hospital with a gunshot victim, police Lt. Tim Thornton said.

The victim is identified in a police report as Joseph Donnell Rogers Jr. of Augusta. His condition was not released.

Investigating officers blocked off the crime scene and located the shell casings. No arrest has been announced as the investigation is in its initial phases.

The parking lot at Martintown Plaza serves customers of Planet Fitness as well as other businesses.
