The opening of Belair Middle School in Augusta could possibly be delayed for the start of 2024-25 school year on Aug. 6 due to construction delays.
According to a press release from the Richmond County Board of Education, the plan is for students to attend the middle school next year, but if constructions delays stop this from happening, students will be sent to another school until Belair Middle School can accept students.

“We are actively coordinating with transportation staff, cafeteria workers and vendors, and faculty, teachers, and principals to ensure a smooth transition, regardless of the circumstances,” the press release said.
If the school district determines that Belair Middle School won’t be ready at the beginning of the school year, all affected families will be notified with at least two weeks’ notice, the press release said.
“We understand the importance of this new facility for our students coming from Bel Air K-8, Copeland, and Langford middle schools, as well as rising 6th graders from Sue Reynolds Elementary School. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to provide the best possible learning environment for our students,” the press release said.
The new school is located at 150 Potential Way, Augusta, GA 30909.
