Several Augusta government entities will be part of a two-day event to clear up qualifying outstanding misdemeanor warrants through State Court Aug. 30-31.
“The jail count is extremely high right now, so we are just trying to refrain from people who have things like traffic citations and other minor things,” said Richmond County Intelligence Director Lateisha Mosquera.
Preregistration was held June 21 through July 29. Although online registration is over, Mosquera says individuals looking to clear up their misdemeanor warrant can still come to the event but will have to wait.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office news release, individuals eligible to participate in this event will have fines and/or fees reduced substantially to encourage maximum participation.
“This event is aimed to clear up misdemeanor warrants in Richmond County State Court, this event is not aimed to arrest individuals for outstanding warrants,” the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office news release said. “Individuals are encouraged to take advantage of this event to clear up eligible warrants at a reduced rate.”
Registrants must bring the required documents on the day of the event.
“In the future, we will try and have this event again to help out the community, because we want people to know that we do care, we’re not just arresting people and people go through things where there not financially able to pay those citations,” Mosquera said.
